error : failed to open file: igo\480_272\loading.bmp
well
Hi all, Im Ron,
just got my new 5' GPS, bought off ebay.
supposedly to have nice HW installed.

i was trying to install Igo 8.3 or Primo

when ever i try to run Igo 8.3 i get the error message from above:
failed to open file: igo\480_272\loading.bmp

my sys.txt file looks like this (i had copy it from Geoff recommendation in other post i've search)

[folders]
app="ResidentFlash/iGO8"

[interface]
maxzoom2d=6000000
show_exit=1
;resolution_dir="480_272"
;resolution_dir="320_240"
resolution_dir="800_480"
;vga=1
vga=0

[rawdisplay]
highres="0"
screen_x=800
screen_y=480
;screen_x=320
;screen_y=240

any ideas what is wrong?
the sys.txt was chaged by me from 480_272 to 800_480 to different resolutions, but i can not get it to work.

the branding and data zip files contains all the info needed, data is 37MB large, and branding is 3.4MB and i double checked to see that the files are located ok in the zipped folders.

RE: error : failed to open file: igo\480_272\loading.bmp
If you are running your program from an SD card try Delete [folders] and does your unit have 800x480 resolution, if so your settings are correct for that reso. Does the Data.zip have 800x480 folder in the ui_igo9 folder? I think the deletion of the folders in sys.txt will do the job though if you are running from an SD card.

@ ron1999

First of all, what is the resolution of your device. 5" units generally have 480x272 but there are some with 800x480.

Also which versions of iGO8 or Primo are you trying to install.

RE: error : failed to open file: igo\480_272\loading.bmp
i think the Igo 8 im trying to run is Igo 8.3. something
and the Primo versions i tried was NAVON version (i think)

the device resolution is not clear to me
im trying to run the SW from the resident flash and not from the TF card slot i have.

The status was that in the begining no Igo will run at all,
than - it will turn to blank screen and provide me with the "Faild to load..." error message.

the iGo Primo loads, but when it gets to the language selection screen it hardly sense my tapping on the screen and will not allow me to move forward.

could it be that my device is broken and i need to send it for a fix - i only got it last week.

this is the unit i bought:

i checked my resolution :
it is stated that my device resolution is
800X480

i try to run IGO from the SD\TF card but it will not work.
i never thought getting the GPS started is such a pain

could it be that im doing something wrong?

RE: error : failed to open file: igo\480_272\loading.bmp
i think im moving in circles -
i tried you idea -
deleted PRIMO from the SD card, leaving only the Igo 8, than tried to run the SW but i get the original error message "failed to load the ...800*480..bmp" error message.

i, attaching some screen shots - maybe this will help

i hope that this will help you help me
(during my fun-travel towards getting my GPS unit up and running)

@ ron1999

Looking at the screen shots, it appears to me that your iGO8 is a mixture of PDA and PNA versions. The "application.dat" files are part of PDA versions.

Can you upload your data.zip and branding.zip files for me to have a look at.

And also post your current sys.txt, and again what is the full version number of your iGO8. You will find it in "igo8.exe">>"Properties">>"Version">>"Product Version"

RE: error : failed to open file: igo\480_272\loading.bmp
so..
branding.zip is several MB's, DATA,zip is even larger - so i took screen shots of their content instead.

is it good enough?

i also took screen shots of the igo.exe file version and info

and...

1 - Download You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view., pass- ulyssy, un-rar it and use these three files in lieu of yours.

2 - Set your navi program up on a SD card

3 - Delete the two "application.dat" files

4 - On your device set the path to run iGO8.exe from the SD card and run it.

RE: error : failed to open file: igo\480_272\loading.bmp
ok, Ulyssy :)
you just made my lazy GPS work

how did you do it?
now that its running im afraid to turn it off so it wont change its mind and wont work again :)

Thanks

i'd a short explanation about the magic you just made is available - i'd be happy to hear.

additional thing - despite its new working condition (and its spec saying 600Mhz ARM CPU and 128MB of RAM running win CE6 - this GPS seems to work pretty slow. is there any way to make it faster?)

Again,
tons of thanks for what you've done :*)

@ ron1999

Glad to hear that we were able to help you! But this is exactly what this forum is all about.

There were a couple of things which contributed to your problems. Your "sys.txt" had a few entries which should not have been there and a few which were missing. And then there appeared to have been a couple of files missing from inside either the "branding.zip" and/or "data.zip" files, or if they were not missing, your "sys.txt" file didn't tell iGO to look in the right places for them. Therefore it was easiest to send you the right ones, rather than trying to explain it all here.

And also there was the problem initially of not knowing what the screen resolution of your device was.

Regarding the "slowness" of the device, there isn't really much that you can do about that. Besides running your GPS program, Win CE 6 also has to do some background tasks. And in the GPS program, it has to work pretty hard to calculate and display all the navigation stuff on a 800x480 screen. All that takes time and a 600 MHz processor is really not all that fast.

Perhaps something that you can do is to keep the amount of data that the system has to handle to a minimum. Such as POIs, speedcams, buildings and terrain files, etc., all or some of which, you could turn off. Also stuff relating to other countries which you may never or very infrequently need.

Now above all, the most important thing for you to do, is to make a complete backup of your system onto your PC or another SD card, (or both), so that if you make any changes to your system at any time, you always have the original working one to go back to if something goes wrong, (and it often does!)

RE: error : failed to open file: igo\480_272\loading.bmp
thank for the additional information.
i already took the time to recommend some of my friends about this forum.

as you suggested - i did a backup of the working version of the Igo i have.
i also took the guts and tried to run it from the resident flash (hoping that it would make any improvement over working speed)
well, it did both - it works from the resident flash with no change at all
and i think (may be it is only my belief) that the software do runs a bit quicker.

anyhow, again,
thank a bunch :)

today i got me new Nokia E72 cell phone, so i may bother this forum with some more question in the near future :)

regards

Ron.

RE: error : failed to open file: igo\480_272\loading.bmp
It worked? First delete the save folder and try again. If the error returns, best to replace the data.zip and branding.zip, one of these two must have gone corrupted, probably data.zip.
